Uber or Lyft - Where Can You Make More Money?
PHOENIX - A lot of people are choosing to pick up their keys and drive for a ride-sharing company to make a little extra money on the side. But which one should you choose: Uber or Lyft?
Many drivers like to work for both, but a national study broke down the average wages and benefits for each company and revealed Uber may have a slight edge over Lyft.
"Average trip will be like 10 to 20 bucks," said Lyft driver Dustin Jackson.
Uber is available in more cities and Lyft offers a tipping option.
"It wouldn't hurt to tip a buck or two if you got good service," Jackson remarked.
Jackson drives about 30 to 40 hours a week. And he's paid every Wednesday with a direct deposit.
"I made 300 bucks in 20 hours this week," Jackson said.
According to Nerd Wallet, Lyft's average pay is $11 an hour. But tipping can bring in more. Uber's average pay is $15 and hour.
And Uber has two more bonuses — earn money delivering food for Uber Eats and get paid more for driving a fancier car.
Either way, Friday and Saturday nights the drivers can hit it big.
"Those nights are really busy," Jackson said. "I've done 26 rides in one night."
But drivers warn that you have to be ready for partiers and drinkers.
In the end Nerd Wallet gives a slight advantage to Uber. It says to earn $50,000 a year you have to give 60 rides per week, or 80 rides a week with Lyft.
Uber just announced it will be offering tipping for it's drivers, meaning they could be making even more in the future.
